Visitors and travelers will have to pay more to park at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, as of July 1, according to Katena Carvajales, media relations manager for the airport.
This is the airport's first parking-rate increase since January 2006, she said.
"The rate changes reflect increased costs over the last four or five years, and our continuing investment in new parking services and facilities," added John Kennedy, senior public relations manager at Hartsfield-Jackson.
Carvajales explained that the airport is investing more than $40 million in new parking facilities at the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal. The terminal is due to be completed in 2012, she added.
Additional, new parking services, such as electric courtesy shuttle carts that will transport customers from the economy lots to the airport, and an online parking reservation system, will soon be available to passengers, said Carvajales.
She said the rates for the Airport Park-Ride lot ($9 per day) and the Park-Ride Reserve lot ($12 a day), will not change.
The hourly rate of the Economy and West lots, however, will increase from $2 an hour, to $3 per hour, and from $10 a day, to $12 per day, she said.
The Daily lot will see increased rates of $3 per hour, from the original $2 per hour; and $16 per day, instead of the current $14 per day, she said.
The hourly lot's first, and second hour will increase from $1, to $2, Carvajales said.
For the third-through-sixth hour, the rate will increase from $2, to $3, she said. After the sixth hour, passengers will have to pay $32, versus the original $28 parking rate, she continued. For each additional day travelers remain in the lot, they will pay $36, instead of $28, she added.
Members of the airport's Gold Reserve Lot will pay $3 per hour, versus $3 for the first hour and $1 for each additional hour -- or $30 per day. That rather than the $24 per day, current rate, she said.
Travelers should visit www.atlanta-airport.com/Parking/, for more information about the parking services offered at Hartsfield-Jackson, she added.
