North Clayton coach Doug Henry and his Mundy's Mill counterpart Patrick Smith did not make any predictions about Saturday's Clayton County All-Star Baseball, but the two promise an exciting game.

Henry will lead the North squad while Smith will coach the South in the inaugural all-star game being held at Drew High.

"We have some pitching that is very good," Henry said. "We also have some good hitters on the squad. I think it will be a close game. I know the other side has some good players. It's an all-star game, so I'm really looking to see some offense and some spectacular plays on defense."

Each of the county's nine high schools will have at least two players representatives on a squad.

Smith said his team has had a couple good weeks of practice leading up to the all-star the game.

"They are ready to play," Smith said. "We have swung the bat well in practice. It will be interesting. I know our guys are excited about the game."

Smith will send his former pitcher Sean Moore to the mound to pitch the opening game of the doubleheader. Moore, who is expected to sign a scholarship with Grambling State, had a 6-0 record with 31 strikeouts and give up only 16 hits this season for the Tigers, who missed the Class AAAAA playoffs by one game.

"We got some good arms on the team," Smith said. "I think all the guys are excited about showcasing their talent."

Since the players are considered to be among the best in the county, Henry said he has had the luxury of moving players around to different positions. He said the players have been willing to do what it takes to win.

"They have had a great attitude," Henry said. "I haven't had any attitudes or naysayers. For the most part, everything has gone great."

The players agreed.

"It is an honor to be able to make all-star," said former Mundy's Mill third baseman/outfielder Marvin Taylor. "I think we got all the talent. The guys have been listening to coach. We friends with all the guys on the team and look forward to playing together after years of playing against each other."
