The Jackson-Butts County Public Library will sponsor programs with the theme, "Make a Splash... Read," each Tuesday at 10 a.m., from June 1 to July 27. The programs will be held at the Jackson-Butts County Exchange Building (Fair Grounds). Everyone is invited to these free programs:
June 8: The Reptile Wrangler, Ken Panse, will be providing a close encounter with a variety of reptiles and giant bugs.
June 15: Fiddlin' Dan the Mountain Man will provide a fun and creative show that will engage children and adults alike with a romp through the North Georgia Mountains.
June 22: The "Big Splash Puppet Show" will be performed by Peter Hart with Atlanta Puppets.
June 29: "Ride the Tidal Wave of Tales" will be held with The Story Express storyteller, LaDoris Bias-Davis.
July 6: Arthur Atsma will entertain with his island-themed magic show where water disappears, stories about water are shared and magic tricks involving liquid are performed to thrill the audience, young and not so young alike.
July 13: Kokopelli's Traveling Tales will include dance and puppetry and present authentic tales from Native America and the Aztecs of Mexico, for all ages.
July 20: Lee Bryan, "That Puppet Guy", will present "Circus Fanta-Sea." He is a nationally recognized touring artist who combines live vocal characterizations and songs with innovative puppetry designs for wholesome family entertainment while educating his audiences in the art of puppetry with his popular, behind-the-scenes demonstration following each solo performance.
July 27: Ken Scott, with his "Make a Splash with a Book" theme, is a children's entertainer, storyteller, speaker, and author, and daddy. He will have new stories, Snowball the Rabbit, Croco the puppet, magic, and plenty of audience participation. He is a two-time winner of Atlanta Magician of the Year, performed five times at the White House, and performs yearly at the World Famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, Calif.
The Jackson-Butts County Public Library will also sponsor 2010 Summer Reading Club Programs designed for children ages 11 and up on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. These programs will also be held at the Jackson-Butts County Exchange Building (Fair Grounds):
June 8: "Make Waves" with Dr. Tom will include character skills using mime, juggling, magic and comedy.
June 15: Kyle Putkammer, creator of Galaxy Mann comics, will inspire young artists and educate them about working in the comic book industry. This program is designed to help students improve their skills and build confidence.
June 22: Part One of a woodworking workshop for ages 10 through 16 will be hosted with Bill and Nita Medley. Participants must have attended at least one other prior Tuesday-night program this summer in order to participate.
June 29: Part Two of the woodworking workshop for ages 10 through 16. Participants must have attended Part One in order to participate.
July 6: "Extreme Magic Show," hosted by Arthur Atsma, is a street-savvy magic show pushing the limits of reality, including mentalism, metal bending, impossible card tricks, and standup comedy magic targeted to teen audiences.
July 13: Chef Carlin will cover the basic techniques of cooking quick and easy dishes. Attendees will have fun preparing and eating their cooked creations.
July 20: The Reptile Wrangler, Ken Panse, will provide a hands-on encounter with a variety of reptiles and giant bugs.
