Every Christian has the mark of God - James C. Bell

I'm sure you have heard that the number 666 is the mark of the Devil.

Revelations 13:11-18 tells the story of the Beast out of the earth and his powers.

In verses 16-18, the Bible says, "He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. His number is 666."

Various schemes for decoding these numbers result in a favorite -- Nero Caesar. Others take 666 as a symbol of evil and imperfection, as each digit falls short of the perfect number 7. This actually was an economic boycott against all faithful believers.

In ancient times, the letters of the alphabet served as numbers. Riddles using numerical equivalents for names were popular.

Since the number 7 is actually accepted even today as the perfect number, one might think this would be the number of the Christian, or the mark of the Christian, but this is not the case.

We need to look at Ephesians, chapter one, to find just what the mark of a Christian is, as taught by the Apostle Paul. Please read this whole chapter, for it tells of God's great love for His people -- those who believe in Him and His Son, Jesus Christ.

It says He - God -- chose us, which is divine election, before the creation of the world. Why did He choose us? We were chosen to bring praise to God's glory.

When you heard the true teaching -- the good news about your salvation -- you believed in Christ. And in Christ, God put His special mark of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit that He had promised. That Holy Spirit is the guarantee that we shall receive what God promised for His people, until God gives full freedom to those who are His -- to bring praise to God's glory.

So, the Holy Spirit comes into every Christian's life when he accepts Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. He comes to give us understanding of how we should live for God's glory. He is with us every moment, to counsel us, to help us make right decisions, to guide us, to grow us into the person He wants us to eventually become -- more like Jesus, God's Son, whom He loves.

The Holy Spirit is the greatest gift anyone could ever get!

He not only blesses our lives with wisdom and security and success in the work God gives us to do, but also the satisfaction of knowing we are doing the will of God, and that He is using us to do His work.

When God gives us a job to do, He also gives us the power to accomplish His work, even though it might seem impossible. We soon learn that nothing is impossible with God. I have experienced this in my life.

Many years ago, the Holy Spirit led me to see a great job that God had for me to do. He gave me great plans to accomplish His work, but I was reluctant to carry them out. I was afraid I would fail if I tried, so I let the work pass me by. Some months later, I saw this very work being begun by others, and it has turned out to be very successful.

Many are being blessed, and helped every day, and I praise God for giving this work to another who had the faith to believe He would make it possible. I prayed long and hard for God's forgiveness, and pleaded with Him for another chance to do His work -- no matter what it might be.

He has heard my prayer and has blessed me with another opportunity to serve Him. I praise His Holy name for using me in His kingdom, and I give Him all the praise and glory.

Do you have the mark of God in your life? You can -- only believe in God through Jesus Christ and accept Him as your Savior. What great work might He have for you to do?
