Atlanta Braves rookie sensation Jason Heyward once played in it.
Now, jump ahead almost 12 years later, and the Roberto Clemente American Amateur Baseball Congress 7-8-year old World Series has become a Southern Crescent Tradition.
The event which brings teams as far away as Puerto Rico to Richard Craig Park in McDonough returns to the Southern Crescent again this year as a new generation of 7-and-8-year-old baseball players showcase their talents just like Heyward did back in his day,
This year's World Series comes back to McDonough from July 29-Aug 1 with a double-elimination format.
Leading up to the event, McDonough will also be the host of the Southeast Regional.
The winner of that tournament advances automatically to the Clemente World Series.
The event could feature as many as two teams from Henry County as there will also be a host team from Richard Craig Park participating in the event.
But the Roberto Clemente World Series won't be the only AABC event taking place in McDonough.
The Sandy Koufax Southeast Regional will also be played in McDonough July 15-18.
Regional winners advance to the Sandy Koufax World Series in Surprise, AZ July 28-Aug. 1.
