Thursday Thunder at Atlanta Motor Speedway was one for the record books.

Three racers had historic wins at AMS on Thursday, which was billed as double feature racing. There were six racers that swept their respective race division.

But the highlight of the night was wins by Skip Nichols and Amber Colvin.

With a sweep of the Masters division features, Nichols collected his 27th career victory, which tied him with Thursday Thunder legend Doug Stevens. Nichols, 61, of Albany, will be going for the record next week.

In the first race, Nichols was the pole sitter, but lost the lead to Bill Palominos Jr. With four laps remaining after a caution, Nichols retook the lead on the restart to grab the checkered flag.

John Ponzio started on the pole in the second race, but Nichols was able to surged to the win.

The semi-pro division was the only one not to produce a double winner. Greg Lang of North Carolina won the first feature, but Colvin of Florida won her first Thursday Thunder win in the second feature.

Colvin, 16, grabbed the lead with a lap to go to take the checkered flag. Prior to the win, Colvin's previous best was three second place finishes during the 2008 season.

Prior to this season, Sean Rayhall of Winston had never raced a Legends car. However, the 15-year-old Alexander High School student is one of the hottest racers in this season's Thursday Thunder series, having won all four races in the Young Lions division after Thursday's double win.

"We want to win a Thursday Thunder points title, and contend for a national title," Rayhall said.

Other double winners include Clayton Weatherman (Bandits), John Holleman (Outlaws) and Austin Hill (Pro).

The Bandits race was a national qualifier race which featured several out-of-state drivers. Weatherman made the trek from Missouri to race in the 15-car field. In the first race, he led from start to finish although he had a challenge from national points leader Garrett Biggers of Charlotte and McDonough native Alex Coffey.

Biggers crashed six laps into the race and Coffey, who had won the two previous races at AMS's Thursday Thunder, made it an interesting race.

Weatherman, who was making his first appearance at AMS this season, held on for the win. Last season, Weatherman won four races and finished as points runner-up to his older brother, Kyle.

"I was able to hold Alex off," Weatherman said. "It was lot of fun out there. This is Alex's home track, so I knew he would give it a run."
