A 22-year-old Riverdale man is in critical condition after being hit by a Toyota Camry early Friday morning.

According to Clayton County Police spokesperson, Officer Otis Willis, the accident happened at 2:59 a.m., Friday on Ga. Highway 138, 100 feet west of Shannon Oak Drive.

He said a 22-year-old Peachtree City woman was driving a green, 2000 Toyota Camry along the highway when the victim found his way into the middle of the road.

"He went into the windshield, and then fell off the car," Willis said. "The driver immediately stopped and saw that it was a human being. She got out and tried to administer aid to the person. She had not had anything to drink. She was not on any prescription medicines."

Willis said that two other witnesses assisted at the scene of the accident, one who attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The victim, whom police are not yet identifying, is suspected of having alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.

"From what the investigation is showing, he did have an alcoholic drink in his system," Willis said. "That could be a contributing factor of him being in the roadway ... he was by himself."

Willis said the Riverdale man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, in Atlanta, this morning, where he remains in critical condition, after suffering "serious trauma."

He said police had not made contact with the family of the victim, as of Friday afternoon.
