An international sorority is gearing up for an annual event, promoting exercise, and good health.
The Psi Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., will host a 2.1 mile walk June 26, at 11 a.m., at Clark Park in Stockbridge.
The event is described as an "ESP" walk. It is designed to promote "emotional, spiritual and physical" healing, according to Angelica Foye, vice president and program chairperson for Psi Alpha Omega.
The ESP walk will bring awareness to the group's health programs, said Foye. Sorority members from around the country are scheduled to walk simultaneously in their respective cities. "Our national convention is being held next month in St. Louis, so we are walking in support of each other," Foye said.
The walk, she continued, will be synchronized for participants in Henry and Clayton counties. Foye is hopeful for 50 to 100 people to take part in the local event.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is a non-profit service organization with more than 900 chapters in the U.S., and other countries, according to Iketia Patton, chairperson for the local walk.
Participation, she said, is not limited to sorority members, but is open to the public. "We want to encourage everyone to take time out for their emotional, spiritual and physical well-being," Patton said.
"It's more of a celebration of life, and just being here."
Water and snacks, said Foye, will be available for participants.
Registration for the event is free. For more details, call Iketia Patton at (678) 763-6322, or visit http://tinyurl.com/espwalk.
