When should we praise God?

As Christians, we should praise God and thank Him for being our great and mighty God, for His blessings and mercy and love.

We should praise Him for what He has done, for giving us this beautiful world we live in, but most of all, for His Son, Jesus Christ, who gave his very life to provide the way of redemption for us -- to empower God's great plan of salvation, so we might be saved.

Jesus said: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." We can only come to the Father with faith and trust in Jesus Christ, by accepting Him as our Savior and Lord.

Romans 10: 9 and 10 says: "If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

Psalms 148, 149 and 150 tell us how we should praise the Lord our God: Praise the Lord; Sing to the Lord a new song; Praise Him in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty heavens; Praise Him for His acts of power; Praise Him for His surpassing greatness -- Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

The choir praises Him with articulate expression and celebrates God's mighty acts. (I made a note in my Bible, some time ago, and just came across it today. It said: "Praise is faith set to music!" How true.

Psalm 150, the final great Hallelujah, was, perhaps, composed specifically to close the Psalter. This final call to praise moves powerfully by stages, from place to themes, to orchestra to choir, framed with Hallelujahs. It tells where God should be praised -- His sanctuary. Why He should be praised -- His mighty acts of power, in creation and redemption. How He should be praised -- with song and orchestra. And, Who should praise Him -- His people.

But we asked the question in the title --When Should God be praised? We should praise Him in our prayers whenever we pray. I think God loves to hear our praise and thanks for His great love for us and for our salvation.

We should start our prayers with praise to our great and mighty God, who was, and is, and is to come! I believe He likes to hear us quote scripture to Him as we thank Him for His wondrous promises. In John 14, you will find: "Let not your heart be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. I will come back and take you to be with me."

Thank You, Jesus, for giving us this great assurance. When should we praise Him? Not just now and then, as we have time, but all the time! We have His Holy Spirit in our hearts to lead and guide us. He will also lead us into sincere prayer and praise.

If you are a Christian, I hope you do have a certain time set aside to talk with Jesus, for it is such a rewarding experience. Remember the song, "Just a little talk with Jesus makes it right"?

It sure does, for we get the right answers we need when we pray. If you are reading this article and do not have a relationship with Jesus, why not get right with Him today. It's easy to do for the person who will put his or her faith in Jesus and ask for His forgiveness.

If you will humble yourself and pray, admitting your sin and asking for mercy and forgiveness, He will hear you and grant your prayer. I pray you will.
