Defending champion Scott Wolfes of St. Simons Island fired his second-straight 69 and first-round leader Austin Vick of Evans turned in an even-par 71 as the two players sit tied atop the leader board at 4-under-par 138 in the 45th annual Georgia Junior Championship, taking place at Green Island Country Club, June 21-23. Locust Grove golfer Davin White is also in the hunt and will head into final round tied for third. White and Caleb Morris have a two-day total of 141. But it was Henry Mabbett Jr. of Griffin who carded an impressive, tournament-low score of 6-under-par 65 on Tuesday. After shooting 75 in Monday's opening 18, Mabbett, who finished tied for sixth in last year's Championship, vaulted from 46th to a tie for third in the standings at 2-under 140 heading into the final round. Three players are tied for seventh at even-par 142, including Matthew Beringer of Macon, Joe Lewis of Savannah and David Yowell of Marietta. Yowell posted a second-round 69, one of just three players in the 60s on Tuesday. Jimmy Beck of Columbus, Cory Griffin of McDonough and Wyatt Larkin of Morganton are all tied for 10th at 143. Mabbett's round included an eagle on the 361-yard, par 4 13th hole, along with six birdies and two bogeys. The final round is today in Columbus.More like this story
