Henry County Police have cited speeding as the cause of a wreck in Stockbridge, that took the lives of two men over the weekend.
The victims were identified as 21-year-old Daniel Batts, of Jackson, and 22-year-old Stephen Willis, of Stockbridge.
The incident occurred just before 10 a.m., Sunday, according to Police Capt. Jason Bolton. He said Batts was driving a Honda Civic, with Willis as his passenger, on Jackson Lake Road toward Ga. Highway 81, when the driver lost control of the car.
"The vehicle left the right side of the road and struck a tree," Bolton said. "The driver ... was ejected from the vehicle. Batts was transported to Henry Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead."
Willis, Bolton said, was pronounced dead at the scene. "Traffic investigators believe that the vehicle was traveling well above the posted speed limit when the driver lost control," he added.
Donna Braddy, director of marketing and public relations for the hospital, said "massive injuries" sustained by Batts led to his death.
