When we love God, He knows our name - James C. Bell

I love the chorus we sing often in our worship services, "He knows my name." The words are: 'He knows my name, He knows my every thought, He sees each tear that falls and He hears me when I call."

If you are a Christian who loves the Lord, do you realize that God actually knows your name? The Bible tells us in 1st Corinthians 8:3, "The man who loves God is known by God."

Isn't it a fantastic, even wonderful thought, that, as small and insignificant as we may be in this huge world of human beings, God knows us as individuals? He knows our thoughts, our cares, our desires, and He even knows our name! There is something more important here that we should think about -- He not only knows our minds and personalities, but He has definite plans for each of us.

How could anyone know the plans God has for His children, you ask?

Do you have a direct line to God? Praise God! He has given us who love Him through His Blessed Son Jesus Christ, the privilege to call on Him in prayer, to talk directly to Him, to thank Him for our salvation, to ask Him to lead and direct our lives and to answer our prayers, in Jesus' name.

We are so blessed to have His Holy Word, our Bible, to read and study and find understanding and comfort and peace and strength in His Word. We find in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Yes, God does have plans for our lives, if only we have the faith to fully believe and trust Him. He says, "Then you will call upon me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

Have you decided to seek God with all your heart? This doesn't mean to believe in Him, but think of Him only now and then -- to receive Christ as your savior and stop there, to just put Him on the shelf and live as you please. No, He wants you to think of Him every day and call to Him in prayer daily and ask Him to be your constant companion.

Every Christian should read and study his Bible daily, and be able to share with others just what God, through Christ, has done for him or her. The Bible tells us in 2nd Timothy 4:2, to be prepared to speak the needed word in any situation, whether of correction, or rebuke, or encouragement.

If you are without Christ, and you want God to know your name, you must first repent of your sins; which simply means to admit you have sin in your life, and then pray to God in Jesus' name to forgive you. God promises in John 3:16 to save those who believe in His Son.

Do you understand what God is saying to you in this scripture? God is giving you a personal invitation to receive Jesus Christ as your savior, and to receive His gift of eternal life.

This gift is comprised of His guidance and leadership, His plans for you in a life of faith and trust dedicated to Him. If you will listen to Him and believe in Him, He can, and will, give you more wisdom and understanding than you could receive with the best education and counseling money can buy.

Yes, my friend, God knows your name when you believe in Him and accept His Son Jesus Christ as your personal savior. This is God's plan, His only plan to save sinners, because we cannot earn our salvation through good deeds or works. Salvation is free -- His gift to those who believe and trust in Jesus.

In Matthew 7:21, Jesus says, "Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of the Father who is in heaven." Others will hear, "I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers."

Love God and be known by Him. Then, He will know your name!
