Due to the likelihood of inclement weather, the City of Jonesboro has postponed its Streetscape Project Groundbreaking Ceremony, originally schedule for today.
According to Jonesboro City Clerk Janice Truhan, the mayor and city council will hold the ceremony on Thursday, March 4, at 3 p.m., at the corner of College Street and South Main Street.
Jonesboro Mayor Luther Maddox said former city council members, former mayors, and other dignitaries are expected to take part in the ceremony. He said all of them had contributed to the realization of the project, which will involve burying utilities underground, and adding new sidewalks and new traffic lights along Main Street, between College and Spring streets.
According to city officials, the first phase of the project will cost approximately $2.73 million and take one year to complete.
Parking is available next to the railroad tracks. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call (770) 478-3800.
