Clayton County police say they have charged one of the men apprehended after Monday's alleged robbery of a Bank of America in Jonesboro.
Police charged Kendel Gerrard Lawrence, 44, of College Park, with armed robbery, Clayton County Police Officer Otis Willis, III, said Tuesday.
Police said Monday that a man allegedly entered the bank on the corner of Tara Boulevard and Ga. Highway 138 around 2:30 p.m., and handed a teller a note demanding money.
"In the note, it mentioned he had a gun and he would shoot, and he wanted $50,000," Willis said.
Willis said the teller gave the suspect about $1,200 before he left the bank and got into a white Cadillac with another man. A bank security guard, he said, gave authorities a partial tag number for the vehicle.
A county code enforcement officer listening to police radio traffic spotted the car and told authorities where to find it. Willis said the Cadillac was stopped at Valley Hill Road and Upper Riverdale Road and two men were apprehended.
Willis said that no weapon was presented during the robbery, and none was found when the men were stopped. He said the money was recovered.
The other man in the vehicle was not charged, Willis said.
