Police: Jonesboro woman had too many dogs

A Jonesboro woman, who animal control officials had been trying to catch up to for almost a year, faces an obstruction charge, after police say she locked herself in her home when animal control visited Tuesday.

Shenniele Sandra Youhoing, 43, faces an obstruction charge and approximately 13 citations for various ordinance violations, Clayton County Police Officer Otis Willis, III, said Wednesday.

Police said she was keeping 12 dogs of various breeds, in unsanitary conditions, in the back yard of her Staten Street home.

County ordinances permit residents to keep no more than five dogs or five cats, or a combination of five, Willis said, if the animals are over four months of age.

Willis said animal control officials had been trying to make contact with Youhoing since March 19, 2009, after receiving complaints. He said authorities searched her home Wednesday and seized the dogs. He said the animals were turned over to animal control.
