Jonesboro to investigate 'personnel' matter

In a special called meeting on Friday morning, the Jonesboro City Council voted to appoint a two-councilmember committee to investigate an undisclosed personnel matter.

Following an executive session beginning at 10:30 a.m., Friday, the council voted to appoint Councilmembers Clarence Mann and Joe Compton to investigate a matter concerning city personnel.

City officials would not discuss the details of the matter on Friday, citing privacy issues.

"I just can't comment on it, due to the fact that it is a personnel matter," Mann said Friday. "We just felt like it was something that we needed to look into. There are just some things that just don't look kosher about it, and we want to do the right thing for the right people. We've been given permission to do what is necessary to bring it to a conclusion."

"Anything that is [discussed] in executive session is privileged," Compton said Friday. "I am sure at one of the council meetings, we'll have to present some findings."

Mann said the investigation may take approximately 30 days to complete, but said that the city had not set a specific timeline.
