During a called meeting, tonight, the Clayton County Board of Education will be presented with a copy of Clayton County Public Schools' latest report on regaining full Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation.
"This is the document that will be submitted to SACS prior to the [accreditation] review team visit that's coming up [in mid-April]," said Clayton County Public Schools Spokesman Charles White.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Central Administration Complex, located at 1058 Fifth Ave., in Jonesboro.
The upcoming SACS visit is the second of its kind since the school system regained SACS accreditation, on a probationary basis, in May 2009. As part of its probation, the school district must be visited roughly every six months, for two years, by a SACS review team, to monitor the progress of the school district and the school board.
After a visit in October, SACS determined the school system, and the school board, had made enough improvement on two of the three remaining mandates that had been handed down from SACS in February 2008 -- and on one of four new mandates handed down last May -- to be placed on "operational" status for those mandates.
The remaining mandates on which the school system, and school board, have yet to reach "operational" status are: committing to an ethics policy governing the actions of school board members; implementing a comprehensive, strategic planning process at the school, and district, levels; conducting a review of the school system's organizational structure, and establishing an articulated action plan for dealing with the resolution of conflicts involving staff members and school board members.
In addition to reviewing the SACS report, the school board is scheduled to vote on an employee tribunal recommendation. White said he could not confirm which of several recent tribunal panel recommendations would be dealt with at the meeting.
