Parents have until the end of this week to register their children for the Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department's upcoming "Teachers' Workday Actividay" event, which is scheduled for Monday, March 15.
The event, Parks and Recreation Department Special Programs Manager Shawna Nelms said, will provide children with a day of activities on Monday, when schools are not in session, due to a teacher workday.
She called it a one-day version of a summer camp, with scheduled activities, including making arts and crafts; morning exercise; game time; brain teasers, and movie time.
"We offer an actividay to help parents have something for their children to do when they are not in school," Nelms said. "It offers a safe place for children to come in and play."
The deadline to register is Friday, Nelms said. Activities that target children between the ages of 5 and 15, will be offered at each of the department's three recreation centers, she added. She also said the event will last from 7 a.m., to 6 p.m. The sign-up cost is $15 per child.
The participating recreation centers are the Jim Huie Recreation Center, which is located at 9045 Tara Blvd., in Jonesboro; the Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, located at 3499 Rex Road, in Rex; and the Virginia Burton Gray Recreation Center, which is located at 1475 East Fayetteville Road, in Riverdale.
