Every Christian has a testimony to share with others, particularly with those who do not know Jesus Christ as their personal savior.
This personal testimony consists of the story of how God saved them through Jesus Christ and is unique with every person who has heard the call of Christ to come unto Him and admit their sin, confess their belief in Christ and ask for God's forgiveness.
When God's son, Jesus Christ, comes into a life it is an awesome experience. I recall my own day of salvation -- the moment when I gave my heart and life to Jesus -- I was filled with joy and I knew without a doubt Christ came into my heart and took away all my sin. It was the greatest moment of my life and I immediately wanted to tell someone, anyone, that God had heard my prayer and Jesus Christ had come into my heart. This is the light that every Christian has and we must tell others how they, too, may find their salvation.
Jesus said in Luke 8:16, "No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light."
The spiritual equivalent is letting the light we receive through faith shine through us.
Without that light, people remain in the kind of pre-creation darkness James Weldon Johnson described as "Blacker than a hundred midnights down in a cypress swamp." Christians must allow their "light," their Christian witness, to shine for all to see so that those lost in the terrible darkness of sin can find their way to the Savior.
I don't believe witnessing for Christ is an option for those who are saved. No, I think it is a command of Christ to tell others His Gospel story of what He has done for all the world.
As witnesses, we don't have to be eloquent speakers or great teachers. We don't have to be spellbinders as we tell His story, but what we are required to do is to tell the truth of Jesus Christ, the story of His sinless life and His death on the cross, His burial and His glorious resurrection!
We can use just a few verses from God's Word to authenticate His gospel -- John 3:16, Romans 3:23, Romans 10:9. We do not have the power to save anyone. Ours is to tell the story, Jesus and the Holy Spirit will take it from there and save the soul who is willing to believe and put his faith in Jesus. Ephesians 2:8, 9.
The question, now, for the sinner, the unsaved, is simply this: Are you willing to believe in God and put your faith in Jesus, asking Him to forgive your sins? I have seen many people at this crucial point, this moment of truth, and have had the privilege of praying with them to receive Christ as their personal savior.
What a wonderful time for all, not just the person being saved by the Holy Spirit of Christ, but for the witness as well. I pray for you my Christian friend, will you let your light shine? Will you decide, today, that you will follow His command and become His witness?
How about you, my lost friend, will you hear the call of God and receive Jesus Christ as your Savior today? I pray you will.
