Jenkinsburg Mayor Kenneth Rooks presented an appointment to the Jenkinsburg City Council to establish a Planning Commission at the council's March 22 meeting.
The appointment is allowed by section 3.22 (2) of Jenkinsburg's charter and references section 20-20-3 of the city's zoning ordinance.
Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Ford made a motion to adopt the appointment; Council Member David England seconded Ford's motion.
Carla Nestor, Allison Jackson, Angie Sorrow, Mike Rape and Richard Weaver were appointed to the Planning Commission.
Planning Commission members will serve four year terms to expire on December 31, 2013. Members will be re-appointed, or new members will be named at that time every four years thereafter.
Jenny Lynn Bruner made a presentation on behalf of the Georgia Forestry Commission to the Council asking Jenkinsburg to consider joining Tree City USA. Bruner informed the Council every municipality within Butts County were currently members and she didn't want Jenkinsburg to be left behind.
Jenkinsburg holds its open house this Saturday, March 27.
