ANNUAL WINE & CHEESE TASTING FOR THE BUTTS COUNTY FERST FOUNDATION MAY 6
The Butts County Ferst Foundation will be having their Annual Wine & Cheese Tasting Silent Auction at Pinky's Parlor on Thursday, May 6. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or at the Chamber Office.This is a Childhood Literacy Fund Raiser which supports children of Butts County receiving free books from birth to kindergarten. JACKSON FINE ARTS FESTIVAL MAY 8
The 2010 Jackson Fine Arts Festival will be held Saturday, May 8 under the oaks at the corner of Third and Dempsey Streets. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. over 18 artists will display their work in the triangle lot in front of Carmichael Insurance Agency. As a special treat on this Mothers Day weekend, a gourmet box lunch created by Gay Grant will be available for $5.
HOSA CHICKENQUE MAY 8
Jackson High School Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA) will hold a chickenque on Saturday, May 8 at the County Administrative Building Parking Lot from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. for $7 per plate, which Includes tea, meat, chips and slaw. Yard sale and car wash begin at 8 a.m. All Proceeds will support our Jackson High School HOSA team to attend HOSA Nationals and represent our county and state in competition.
AARP MEETS MAY 10
AARP meets Monday, May 10 at 10:30 at the the Senior Center. Avery Smith will be the speaker. Ways & Means is a bakeless bake sale. According to an AARP member who shall remain nameless, that's when "you give money and don't want to bake a cake." Come and bring a friend.
MENTORING PROGRAM AT BURNING BUSH BEGINS MAY 10
Burning Bush Youth & Family Intervention Center, Inc. will be starting a mentoring program for boys called M.I.G.I. (Made In God's Image) and girls called D.I.V.A. (Divinely Inspired to Live Virtuously Always) on Monday, May 10. If you are interested in placing your child in a program that would encourage them to be positive, allow them to interact with others, work on their social skills and challenge them to impact their world, come speak with a member of our staff. DOCENT TRAINING AT INDIAN SPRINGS HOTEL/MUSEUM MAY 13
Volunteers are needed to greet visitors on Saturdays and Sundays at the Indian Spring Hotel/Museum from 1 - 4 p.m. throughout the summer, beginning Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Volunteer (docent) training will be offered at the Indian Springs Hotel/Museum on Highway 42, across from Indian Springs State Park, on Thursday May 13 at 7 p.m. Consider joining the excitement at Indian Springs by volunteering at our community's famous historic building. PASTEL WORKSHOP MAY 15
The next in the series of Art Workshops sponsored by the Butts County Council for the Fine Arts through a Grass Roots Arts Program grant will occur on Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Generations Gallery in The Village at Indian Springs. Preston King will show beginners and advanced artists the techniques of applying the soft pastels. It is a good refresher course course for all artists. The $20 fee includes materials. MCINTOSH TRAIL COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD TO SPONSOR MCINTOSH MARKET SALE; DONATIONS REQUESTED
The McIntosh Trail Community Service Board (MTCSB) serves Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Spalding, and Upson Counties. Its mission is to offer individuals experiencing symptoms associated with mental illness, addictive disease, and/or developmental disability the hope for optimal functioning by providing quality behavioral health services and supports. MTCSB will be holding a two-day Flea Market event on June 4 & 5 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Cooks Supermarket Center, 917 Memorial Drive in Griffin.

DAY CAMP REGISTRATION AT DAUSET TRAILS

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM
The Butts County Senior Center is in need of help for the Meals on Wheels program. We need volunteers to help with the meal delivery on a daily basis. We need you if you are a mature adult who is willing to be a team player and help when needed. You must be willing to drive your own vehicle and provide gas or ride along and walk meals to the client's door. You must undergo a background check (at no charge), and you must be courteous and polite to the senior citizens who are our clinets. If you can help, call Jane Whelchel at 770-775-8238.
