Residents, with a big appetite, will gather at a McDonough restaurant this weekend for a contest to determine who can eat the most hot dogs.

CJ's Hotdogs, at 593 Jonesboro Road, will host a "Big Dawg Challenge" Sunday, at 3 p.m.

Between 20 and 60 people are expected to participate in the event. They will attempt to eat the most, half-pound, Black Angus beef hot dogs in the shortest amount of time, said CJ's Owner Darren Miller.

"To watch them do it is hilarious," Miller said. "It's definitely a challenge. "The record is three of those [hot dogs], with two toppings, in six minutes and nine seconds. Whoever beats the record, at the lowest time, will get a $50 gift certificate to CJ's."

Miller owns the restaurant with his wife, Pam, and their daughter, Jordan.

He said, although his eatery is typically closed on Sundays, CJ's will be open from 2 p.m., to 6 p.m., on the day of the contest. Miller said participants will either be added to a Wall of Fame, if they beat the record, or a Wall of Shame, if they do not.

Some of the contestants, he added, are planning to come from as far away as Kennesaw, in a quest to claim the top prize.

"It's amazing that we're pulling people an hour and a half away, to eat hot dogs," he said.

The cost to enter the contest is $15. For more details, call the restaurant at (770) 957-2993.
