A lone gunman, dressed in black and wearing a white bandana, held up a Waffle House restaurant north of the Riverdale city limits early Thursday morning.
The man, brandishing a semi-automatic handgun, entered the Waffle House at 5150 Ga. Highway 85 at 2 a.m., Thursday, and demanded money from the store's register, according to Clayton County Police Department spokesperson, Officer India Smith.
The robber was described as "a black male, approximately 5-feet, 8-inches [tall], and approximately 140 pounds," Smith said.
"There weren't any customers in the restaurant, just the employees," Smith said. "One of the cooks came and opened the register. He [the robber] jumped on a bar stool and reached over the counter and snatched the money, then ran out."
Canine units dispatched to the scene shortly after the robbery found $26 scatted around the Waffle House property, Smith said. That money was returned to the restaurant. The amount of money taken from the restaurant was unknown on Thursday, Smith added.
Police have no suspects in the robbery. Video surveillance was inconclusive, she said.
According to Smith, Clayton authorities believe a similar robbery took place in Henry County on Thursday morning, prior to the Waffle House robbery in Clayton County. Anyone with information, is encouraged to call (770) 473-5400.
