Talk about a great way to end your high school track career.
Eagle's Landing Christian's Luke Baker captured the state championship in the Class A 3200-meter for the second year in a row.
Baker, who recently signed a scholarship to the University of Georgia, dominated his final race as a prep star, winnng in a time of 9:33.12.
He was way out front when he crossed the finish line as Athens Christian's Josh Jenkins was a distance second, finishing the race in 9:51.86.
Baker heads to Georgia with plenty of accolades, including a state title in cross country last fall.
With the the rest of the running finals set for Saturday, ELCA is in third place in the Class A team standings with 30 points.
In the Class AAAA 3200, Eagle's Landing's Zack Sims was fourth (9:44.693).
Eagle's Landing heads into Saturday's meet tied with Woodward for seventh with 15 points.
Morrow's Wayman Storey could be on the verge of winning a state championship when the finals are held Saturday.
Storey turned in the top time of all the 200-meter dash participants during the Class AAAAA preliminaries, finishing in 21.352.
In a second 200-meter race, Riverdale's Deandere McBridge was second in his heat race with a time of 21.937 meaning the two will be compete in the final of the event.
Two runners from the Southern Crescent also turned top performances in the Class AAAAA 400-meter run.
Ayrian Evans was third in his heat race (49.01) and Riverdale's Tony Warren (49.216) was fourth in his race.
In Friday's preliminary events, ELCA sprinter Dylan Elder had a stellar afternoon finishing third in his 100-meter heat with a time of 11.07. He also took second in his 200 meter heart with a time of 22.52. ELCA teammate Darrien Hudson also competed in the 200 meters and was third in his heat, finishing the sprint in a time of 22.76.
The Chargers' Seth Moore turned in a solid performance in his 400-meter heat with a third-place finish (51.26).
In the 400-meter relay, ELCA's Manny Mirchell, Dylan Elder, Darrien Hudson, Keyante Green, Christian Reeves and Seth Moore was second in their heat (43.119).
Henry County's Darnell Brown (50.79) was fourth in his heat during the Class AA 400-meter race.
In Class AAAA, Stockbridge's Steve Palmer was second in one of the 400-meter heat races (49.374). Teammate Aaron Coleman was third in the 800 meter run (1:59.840).
Dutchtown's Chris Austin (15.197) was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles.
Jonesboro's Tuareb Ferguson was fourth in the 300- meters (39.80).
Riverdale and Lovejoy could finish among the top 10 in the Class AAAAA team standings.
The Raiders go into Saturday's final tied for seventh with 12 points, while the Wildcats are tield for ninth with 10 poins.
