Steele is a 3 year old gray and white, domestic shorthair. He has been neutered and all vaccinations are current. Steele was cruelly discarded and abandoned at the front door of the CCHS shelter. Staffers coming into work, on a very hot summer morning, found poor Steele closed up tightly in a cardboard box. Once he was removed from the box, it was immediately clear that this cat had been badly neglected. As we fully expected, he became ill almost immediately. With some overdue TLC, Steele has recovered and shown himself to be a really sweet boy. However, each time there is even the slightest illness at the shelter, Steele seems to fall victim again and again. We believe that Steele was so poorly cared for in the past, that possibly his immune system has become weakened. Because of that, a shelter environment is very dangerous for a cat like Steele. He is constantly being exposed to new cats and new illnesses. Steele's doctor believes that Steele will do much better in a true home environment, where he can be protected from massive exposure, which is what he faces at the shelter. Steele's weak immune system does not need to affect his "adoptability". He is still a very special animal, who deserves a chance at a better life.
