Do you believe in Jesus Christ? - James Bell

The Holy Bible tells us all about God's love and care for all mankind, and the plans He has made to help us find peace and happiness and fulfillment in this short life we are living.

John 20:13 says, "These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name."

John was saying the Scriptures, even the whole Bible, were written so that we may believe and know all the things He has done to be sure we believe in Jesus Christ. God knew at the very beginning of life that Jesus Christ, His one and only Son, would, one day, become living flesh on earth, that He would be the only way that sinful man could find forgiveness and be saved from Satan and death.

He told all through the Old Testament of the coming Messiah, the one who would save evil man from his own sin and evil desires. His own chosen people heard from God's prophets of the coming Christ, and many prayed and thanked God for this wonderful promise of a Savior, and they looked forward to His coming and the great day of Salvation.

But when Jesus was born in a stable to family of low estate, few even knew that their Messiah had arrived. Then, as He became of age and began to preach, the people did not believe and did not accept Him. Please read Luke 4:14-28, the story of the rejection of Jesus at Nazareth.

Today, when people hear the story of Jesus Christ, many reject Him and do not believe in Him as the Savior. They even get upset, and even mad at the mention of His name. They say they don't want to hear anymore, for they are not religious people. They certainly are not "religious people," for they are in the clutches of Satan and are walking in the darkness of sin.

What happens when people are confronted with the Gospel is that the Holy Spirit convicts them of their sin, and offers them the only way to be saved, through Jesus Christ. This must scare the Devil, for he starts to tell lost people to not believe in these stories of Jesus. He tells them how good they are and that they have done nothing wrong; they should continue to live their lives just as they please.

Actually, what is happening is that Jesus is telling them the truth. He says in John 8:12-30: "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." Please read the rest of this scripture yourself.

Please ask yourself this question -- are you listening to Him?

Do you know for certain that, if you died tonight, you would go to Heaven to be with your Savior Jesus Christ? Do you believe in Jesus Christ?

Here is a good definition of believing: To believe is to continually embrace the person of Jesus Christ as the Savior, Lord, and Treasure of your life. Romans 10:9-10 says: "If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

Verse 13 says: "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Praise the Lord! Will you call on the name of the Lord?

I pray you will.
