What's at stake?: The winner wins the Region 5-A championship and is the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
Wesleyan's offense: Led by one of Gwinnett County's leading rushers in Kyle Karempelis, who has over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. He sat out one game while nursing some minor injuries. Quarterback Andrew Frerking has passed for 1,354 yards and 24 touchdowns with only two interceptions. The offensive line is anchored by David Andrews, a 6-3, 290-pound University of Georgia commitment.
ELCA's offense: The Chargers love to spread the ball around among the talent in their skill positions. Quarterback Aaron Spratlin is the triggerman in the Chargers' spread offense, but they effectively run the "Wildcat" package with Keyante Green taking the direct snap. Green has rushed for 708 yards and 13 touchdowns despite missing three games with a shoulder injury. Christian Reeves is a sure-handed receiver with 20 catches and eight touchdowns.
Wesleyan's defense: Only four teams have scored in double figures against the Wolves, while they have two shutout wins. The team is led by linebackers Merritt Hall with 85 tackles and Drew Widner, who has 61 tackles. With punter Eric Sunderman averaging 41.7 yards per punt, the Wolves can play field position football in certain situations.
ELCA defense: The Chargers have four shutout wins and including a five-game stretch where the defense did not allow a score. Linebacker Cody Rush has a team-leading 54.5 tackles on the season. With an athletic secondary, which is led by major college prospect Avery Walls, the defensive staff can take some chances because of its ability to recover fast.
What to know about Wesleyan: The Wolves have won back-to-back Region 8-A titles from 2008-09. The clinched the 2008 Class A championship by beating a Washaun Ealey-led ECI team.
What to know about ELCA: According to ghsfha.org, the Chargers have never won a Georgia High School Association region title. ELCA won the 1996 Georgia Independent School Association title.
Wesleyan will win if: The Wolves can take advantage of every scoring opportunity. ELCA is rarely caught out of defensive position so the Wolves will have to counter with mistake-free football.
ELCA will win if: Its quick striking offense can be patience and takes what the defense allows. The Chargers must keep Wesleyan's defense off balance with a good mixture of run and pass plays.
