After serving as Clayton State University's interim provost and vice president of academic affairs for the last 15 months, Michael Crafton has been officially appointed to the position on a permanent basis, the university announced this week.
Crafton came to Clayton State from the University of West Georgia, in August 2009, to replace the former provost, Sharon Hoffman.
He was a professor of English at the University of West Georgia before coming to Clayton State. He has also taught some English classes at Clayton State since coming to the Morrow-based university.
In a written statement, Clayton State President Tim Hynes said Crafton has gained the support of the school's faculty since he came to the university.
"After discussions with faculty in each of the colleges and the Faculty Senate, it was clear that Dr. Crafton's efforts had gained the respect and trust of a wide cross section of our faculty," Hynes said.
