Southern Belle Farm, to end its two-month long fall season, is planning to host a "Give Thanks Weekend" event, Nov. 13-14.

The farm will be collecting non-perishable and canned food items, in support of the local Food Pantry at Helping in His Name Ministries, Inc., in Stockbridge, according to Ansley Glenn, marketing director for the farm.

Glenn said each person who brings at least one non-perishable or canned food item, will receive half off on admission to the farm, which is a savings of $6. Regular admission, for those ages three and older, is $12.

The family-owned, 200-acre farm -- located at 1658 Turner Church Road in east McDonough -- is formerly a dairy farm, that currently operates as an Agri-Tourism Farm, with seasonal attractions, which include a pick-your-own berries, a produce patch, and a cornfield maze.

Glenn noted the farm will open for its final weekend, starting Saturday, from 10 a.m., until 10 p.m., and Sunday, from 1 p.m., to 6 p.m.

A large collection bin will be placed at the Southern Belle Farm ticket booth this weekend, she said, adding that the current list of the pantry's needs include: sugar and flour; canned fruit; canned vegetables; canned meat and tuna, rice and beans; peanut butter and jelly; Ensure; canned soups; pasta noodles; pasta sauce; macaroni and cheese; instant potatoes; grits and oatmeal; cereal; diapers (any size); baby formula (any type); and personal hygiene items, such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, disposable razors, and toilet paper.

Helping in His Name Ministries, Inc., Food Pantry provides supplemental food to more than 3,000 residents of Henry County each month.

"We look forward to our "Give Thanks Weekend" and hope others will join us in supporting and making a difference in the lives of local residents in-need," added Glenn. "We would love to have 2,000 people out this weekend, and more than that donation-wise for the food pantry. That would be a great contribution to the food pantry. We look forward to those who will join us in our Thanksgiving spirit." For more information, call the farm at (770) 288-2582, or visit the farm's web site at www.SouthernBelleFarm.com.
