A missing Hampton man, who was last seen 11 days ago, at an America's Best Value Inn and Suites, in Jonesboro, was found dead behind a pawn shop.
Donald Acree, 50, was discovered Saturday, in a vehicle, behind Moss Pawn Shop, located at 6382 Old Dixie Highway, in Jonesboro, according to Officer Otis Willis, a Clayton County Police public information officer.
A pawn shop employee discovered Acree's body in a gray Chevrolet Blazer, parked behind the pawn shop, according to Willis. The officer said the truck did not belong to Acree.
"The employee went to the back of the pawn shop and found him [Acree] unresponsive," Willis said. He said the employee then called the Clayton County Emergency Services.
Clayton County Police issued a Mattie's Call for Acree last week. He disappeared on Saturday, Nov.6.
According to a Clayton County Police missing person's report, family members indicated that Acree might be suicidal, that he had medical and psychiatric problems, and it was unknown whether he was taking his medications.
"When he left his residence he was in possession of a handgun," the missing person's report stated.
Willis said it appeared that Acree died on Saturday Nov. 13, between 8:50 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.
He said Tuesday that foul play was not suspected in Acree's death. "No trauma was observed at the time [the body was discovered]," said Willis.
Willis said that police know the cause of death, but were not publicly releasing that information, on Tuesday, until further investigation.
