Atlanta Festival Ballet's annual production of "The Nutcracker," will have new performance sites in Henry County this season.
The ballet company, which is based in Stockbridge, plans to perform each of its full productions of the seasonal classic in Henry County this year, according to Judi Peterson, spokesperson for the Atlanta Festival Ballet.
Traditionally, the company's opening performance of "The Nutcracker" has been at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, the weekend following the Thanksgiving holiday.
Peterson said, however, increasing costs to secure use of the facility, coupled with shrinking crowds at the center, have prompted the ballet company's directors to consider other venues.
The ballet's opening performances, she said, will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, in the auditorium of Community Bible Church, located at 2001 W. Jodeco Road in Stockbridge.
The first performance, at 10 a.m., will be a children's show with narration, said Peterson, adding that there will be an opportunity for children to have a photo taken with the Sugar Plum Fairy character. Adults can see the ballet at 2:30 p.m.
The public will have two other opportunities to experience the ballet -- on Saturday, Dec. 18. The company will perform at the Henry County Performing Arts Center, at 2:30 p.m., and at 7 p.m. The center is located at 37 Lemon St., in McDonough.
"We always have a good crowd in Henry County," said Peterson.
Tickets are $15 for regular admission, $12 for seniors and students; and $6 for youths, 5 and younger. Tickets are available at the door, and at all Moye's Pharmacy locations in Henry County.
Peterson said the public can "sneak a peek" at the holiday favorite at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, durings the ballet company's annual abridged, preview showing, which will be held at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, at 1939 Mt. Zion Road in Jonesboro.
