A successful life must include God! - James C. Bell

There are probably as many definitions of a successful life as this article would hold -- and then some.

However, most people seem to define success as being able to do or accomplish something in their life, be it learning a skill, or achieving a goal or many goals that one may set to guide them.

I am a great believer in setting goals, for I know that with goals to guide my efforts, I will be more likely to be successful than without them. I set goals to guide me in things I deem important and worthy of my time, efforts and energy. One definition of success is glorifying God in every aspect of my life.

Many seem to think of success in worldly things only, and do not apply them to God and religious areas of life. But stop and think a moment. What is life really all about? It may be somewhat shocking to some, but our life is not all about us. No, it's all about God and not you and me!

We were created by God to do His will, and have fellowship with Him. And life is not -- as most people see it -- lasting for only 70 to 80 years, or perhaps a few years longer. The truth is, we are eternal beings. We will live forever!

The important question is, where will we live? Will we believe in God and Jesus Christ and live in heaven with Him eternally, or will we ignore God and refuse to believe in Him and go to a place of eternal punishment?

Heaven is described in Revelations, chapter 21, in the Bible. Please note, particularly, verses 7 and 8; then, read Revelations 20:11-15. God makes it very clear in His Holy Word that there is a Heaven and a Hell. Verse 15 says: "If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

If our life is to be successful, it must include God! We must believe in Him and trust in Him, believe in the Bible and, certainly, in His blessed Son, Jesus Christ. We cannot possibly have any true success in life without Jesus Christ being our Lord and master.

Our life on earth is such a short time, in comparison with eternal life. I have lived almost 72 years on earth, and while it seems long in temporal or earthly standards, it is but a wisp of a breeze in comparison with time eternal.

Psalm 119:19 says: "I am here on earth for just a little while." Psalm 39:4 says: "Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeting away."

Life is described as a mist, a fast runner, a breath, a wisp of smoke. We must remember that life is extremely brief compared with eternity, and earth is only a temporary residence. David prayed, "Lord, help me realize how brief my time on earth will be. Help me know that I am here but for a moment more."

Sometimes, we tend to think: "Oh, I have lots of time, what's the hurry, slow down and take life easy." This is not bad worldly advice, for it seems we do have time to do as we want, we shouldn't hurry so. And we should be kind and gentle, but this philosophy is good only if we are in proper relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

If we are saved from the fires of Hell, if we truly believe in Christ and have prayed to receive Him and know, without a doubt, we will go to Heaven when we die, then, we can rest easy and know God will keep us safe.

Do you have a true relationship with God through a belief in Him and Jesus Christ? This is the most important question in life, and your answer will determine your destiny!

If you truly belong to God and serve Him, your eternal life will be to live with Him and all other Christians in Heaven, a place of great peace and joy. Trust Him today and be secure!
