Hotel Equities opens Courtyard in McDonough

An additional 102 rooms of hotel space is available now for travelers to, and through, Henry County.

The hotel -- Courtyard by Marriott in McDonough -- opened Nov. 18, as the latest addition to the Hotel Equities portfolio of hotels, according to Courtyard by Marriott General Manager Richard Welch.

Hotel Equities is a full-scale, Atlanta-based hotel-management, development and consulting firm.

"The hotel is an upscale product, which is targeted toward professional business travelers, and also their families," said Welch. "It's primarily a business person's hotel. It does cross over into groups and families, [and] is created to make them more comfortable, and able to be more productive."

Located at 115 Mill Road, near Exit 221, at Interstate 75 and Jonesboro Road, the four-story hotel was completed in about 16 months, added the general manager.

"We chose the spot because of looking forward to the continuing economic development and growth of Henry County," he continued. "When I came down here, I was extraordinarily impressed with the infrastructure improvements."

Welch was previously general manager of another Hotel Equities property -- the Lodge at Simpsonwood, a Christian Conference and Retreat Center in Norcross, Ga. He has more than 25 years experience as a hotel manager, and will be assisted by the hotel manager, Casey Robinson, and director of sales, Crystal Turnipseed, at Courtyard by Marriott.

While there are seven Marriott-brand hotels throughout metro Atlanta, the McDonough hotel is the first such Marriott hotel locally designed for business travel, by business travelers, according to Tamara Markham, Sr., director of operations for Hotel Equities.

"We are happy to open our company's second Courtyard hotel in Atlanta, our hometown," said Markham. "With our experienced management team in place, we're ready to deliver our brand of award-winning hospitality."

Markham noted that a signature element of the new lobby is the exclusive GoBoard technology, a 57-inch LCD touch screen packed with local information, maps, weather, and news, business and sports headlines. Guests can navigate it using the touch screen to find restaurants, local attractions and directions.

Other hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool with whirlpool spa, free WiFi, a fitness center, guest laundry, business center, and on-site restaurant and bar.

The hotel plans to host a grand opening on Jan. 27, according to General Manager Welch. To learn more, visit www.hotelequities.com.
