A local sorority is hosting a scholarship fund-raiser, which will include listening to poetry over a glass of wine.

The Psi Alphi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc., will hold its second annual poetry reading and wine tasting on Saturday, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The event will be held in the Clayton State University Student Center, at 2000 Clayton State Boulevard, in Morrow.

The sorority's Psi Alpha Omega Chapter serves Henry and Clayton counties, said NaKisha Wynn, AKA fund-raising chairman.

Proceeds will go to AKA scholarships and programs, said Wynn. "I would love to [raise] about anywhere between $7,000 and $9,000," she said.

Tickets will be sold at the door, for $25 each. There will also be a "mystery table" of pre-wrapped gifts attendees can purchase. The gifts will range in price from $5 to $20, said Wynn.

"There will be a variety of things for either sex, because a lot of men will attend, too," she continued. "The higher you pay, the better the gift."

Wynn said a raffle will be held, and some of the items to be raffled off will include: a pair of designer sunglasses, and bottles of wine.

Three local poets will read their work during the wine tasting. Each poet will have 15 minutes to share his or her poetry, Wynn added.
