School Notebook: CSU to hold health fair for men

Thursday

Clayton State University's Department of Campus Life, and the Student African-American Brotherhood, will sponsor a "Men's Health Fair," on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., in the ballroom of the Student Activities Center, which is on the school's main campus, in Morrow. The headquarters branch of the Clayton County Library System will hold a free "Women Empowerment Workshop," on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 7 p.m., to 8:45 p.m., at the branch, at 865 Battle Creek Road, in Jonesboro. Motivational speaker, Renita Gibbs, is scheduled to lead the workshop, which is expected to focus on beliefs and attitudes, for women, which lead to positive self-esteem, and professionalism. Clayton State University will introduce its 2010-2011 men's and women's basketball teams, during "Laker Madness," on Thursday, Oct. 14, starting at 10 p.m., at the Athletics and Fitness Center, which is on the school's main campus, in Morrow. The event is free to attend, and will include student three-point, and dunk contests, and a routine by the Clayton State cheerleaders. Members of each team will then be introduced. The head coaches for the teams are scheduled to talk about what fans can expect during the upcoming season. The event is expected to conclude around 11:30 p.m.

Friday

The Jonesboro branch of the Clayton County Library System will hold a "Bilingual Story Time" event, on Friday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m., to 10:45 a.m. Participating children will get to sing songs, and listen to stories in English and Spanish. Clayton County Public Schools will hold its 2010 "500 Men Standing in the GAP" conference on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m., to noon, at Mundy's Mill High School, which is located at 9652 Fayetteville Road, in Jonesboro. Tuesday

The Riverdale branch of the Clayton County Library System will hold a "Bilingual Spanish/English Story Time" event, on Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 10:30 a.m., to 11:30 a.m. Participating children will get to sing songs, and listen to stories in English, and Spanish. The Clayton County Retired Educators Association will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 19, beginning at 11 a.m., at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, which is located at 142 South Main Street, in Jonesboro. All retired educators are invited to attend the meeting.

Chick-fil-A recently announced that Ellenwood resident, Geo Varghese, an employee of the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House in Forest Park, is the newest recipient of one of the company's $1,000 Leadership Scholarships. Varghese is studying accounting at Georgia Perimeter College.
