The Henry County chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host Crimson Culture Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. The fourth annual function will be held at Alexandria Hall, located at 103 Jonesboro Road in McDonough.
The cost to attend is $20 in advance, or $25 at the door.
The theme for this year's Crimson Culture is "A Taste of the Arts," according to Khaliah Davis, chairperson of the Arts and Letters Committee for the sorority. It will include an art show and a wine-tasting, she said.
"The proceeds go toward scholarships for high school seniors," said Davis.
In 2009, the sorority raised enough money for 10 scholarships. This year's recipients will be given their funds during the sorority's annual "Beautillion" in the spring, said Davis.
"A Taste of the Arts," she said, will include merlot, muscato and chardonnay wines. Participants will also be able to enjoy music from the Eldridge Simms jazz quartet, Davis added.
The event is an extension of Delta Sigma Theta's collective desire to support artistic endeavors, said Simone Morton, the group's Information and Communications Committee chairperson.
"Our national sorority promotes the arts, and at a local level, we do the same thing to give local artists a venue to promote their art," Morton said.
"Alexandria Hall will hold between 450 [and] 500 people," said Morton. "We hope to sell out this year."
