Our great God works in wonderful ways to bless us - James C. Bell

When word first came that 33 miners were lost in the cave-in of the San Jose Mine in Chile, their families were shocked and scared.

They all knew how bad the situation was, and worried that they were all killed. I know the family members of these men went to the Lord God in prayer, asking that, by some miracle, they would be saved and able to get out safely. However, all of them knew the men's chances for survival were small. And as the days went by and no news at all was heard, the families of these trapped men must have begun to give up their hopes of ever seeing them alive again.

How awful and tragic for each of these 33 men and their loved ones.

The days must have dragged by and seemed like weeks, and the weeks like months, until on the 17th day, word came from the miners that they were all safe, alive and well! What a great miracle of God!

I believe an angel of the Lord put the idea in the leader's mind to suggest they all have lunch in the safe room, and as they did, the terrible cave-in happened and they were trapped -- 2,300 feet below the surface.

We now know the rest of the story. All 33 three men have been rescued from certain death and brought out of the mine. They have been returned to their loved ones. Praise God, for only He could have performed such a miracle.

God does hear and answer our prayers. People all over the world prayed for these men and their families. Our great God heard them, and worked through the Chilean government and many companies in other countries to plan and carry out a great plan to rescue these men.

Now, contrast this story with the fact that hundreds of millions of people in this world are lost and without God, and without hope, just as these miners' were. They need to be rescued as well, and our great God has provided a wonderful plan to save them all -- if they have a chance to hear it and accept His salvation.

Jesus Christ came to earth some 2,000 years ago, and lived His life as a perfect example for all who wish to follow. He gave His life on the cross, shed His blood to empower God's plan. He plainly told us in John 3:16 all about His plan: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believed in Him would not perish but would have everlasting life."

Jesus told us to go into all the world and tell others about Him, and to tell them to accept Christ as their savior. Are we as concerned about all these lost people as we were about the 33 miners?

We prayed for them and saw that our great God answered our prayers. How many of us are praying for this lost world and all the people who will burn in Hell, if they don't accept Jesus as their savior?

God has a great plan that, if carried out by His people, will work and save these lost people, "If" we Christians will be obedient and pray and witness to every person we can, then we will see great throngs of lost people coming to Jesus Christ to be saved from Hell, to eternal life.

Jesus said in Matthew 9:37-8: "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." The Lord God said in 2nd Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by my Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Our great God wants to bless us, if we will seek Him with all our heart. I pray we will.
