The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) launched its official Facebook page Tuesday as a means of reaching metro Atlanta's more than 3.4 million Facebook users, according to state transportation officials.
"We have to find more and more ways to get information about our programs and projects to the users of our transportation facilities," said Georgia DOT Commissioner Vance Smith, Jr. "Facebook gives us yet another tool to tell our story."
The free social media technology, according to state transportation officials, will help deliver information about major road projects and new initiatives, and will offer motorists updates on major construction projects, and announcements of public hearings and major events.
Georgia DOT's Facebook page can be viewed online by clicking on the Facebook logo at www.dot.ga.gov.
