The Mt. Zion Bulldogs have been forced to forfeit five wins after self-reporting the use of an ineligible player.

Mt. Zion was in playoff contention in Region 4-AAAA after posting a 6-2 record, but now is 1-7. Clayton County Board of Education spokesman Charles White confirmed that the Bulldogs turned themselves in before Thursday night's victory against Morrow, allowing the team to keep its win against the Mustangs.

"We are still waiting official word about what other action, if any, the Georgia High School Association is going to take," White said.

The Bulldogs gave up victories against Jonesboro, Forest Park, Creekside, Riverdale and Mundy's Mill.

Mt. Zion has two more games left on its schedule, next Friday night against Banneker at Twelve Oaks, and the following week at Tri-Cities.

The Region 4-AAAA playoff scenario now has Creekside (8-0) and Lovejoy (8-0) both still undefeated.

North Clayton is 7-1 and Tri-Cities is 6-3. Banneker (4-4) is still trying to land one of the top four-playoff spots.

Tri-Cities defeated Banneker Friday night.
