The Holy Spirit guides the Christian's life

The Bible teaches that at the very moment a person accepts Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit comes into his life and abides with him. Romans 8:9 says: "If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." John 16:13 tells us: "When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth." He is constantly with the Christian to give him guidance in every decision he must make, if he will listen and obey.

Right now, He lives within you! He helps us in all of our struggles, and will show us the truth in all situations we face. When I was first saved, I'm sure I did not realize the Spirit was with me, and this is probably true in the lives of most young Christians. However, as I learned more about Jesus by prayer and bible study, I began to know of His presence in my life. What a wonderful presence that is! He is with us to council us in all our difficult problems, and to show us the right way to go and how to make right decisions. But the Holy Spirit also plays two other important roles we must understand.

One of His most important roles is that He convicts us of our sin. John 16:8 Says: "He will convict the world of sin, and of unrighteousness, and of judgment." This verse is speaking of His convicting power among unbelievers, but He also convicts believers of their sin. Praise the Lord, I know each and every time I sin, and I ask the Lord to forgive me right then, not waiting until prayer time or a time of devotion. When I have an evil thought to come into my mind, the Spirit convicts me, and immediately I quote a bible verse or just simply tell the devil to get behind me!

Another role of the Holy Spirit is to teach us how to live in a manner that is pleasing to God. "He guides us into all truth." We must discipline ourselves to have periods of Bible study, and as we do, the Holy Spirit will instruct us as we concentrate on God's Word. Many times when I am writing something and want to quote the correct scripture, and I have trouble finding the right verse, I ask the Holy Spirit to guide me, to bring that scripture to mind and He does. I think I have told you about looking for a certain verse and not being able to locate it; I decided I would wait awhile and finish the article later and closed my Bible only to hear the Spirit tell me to finish now. I picked up the Bible and opened it to the exact verse I was looking for! Praise the Lord for the help the Holy Spirit gives us.

As Christians we need desperately to be students of the Holy Spirit, for He can and will guide us to be the very best we can be for Jesus Christ. Every Christian should be a witness for Jesus Christ, telling the gospel story to the lost people of this world. In fact, instead of winning the world for Christ today, we are losing the battle for lost souls, as more and more people decide to just ignore God and live as they please or are misled into believing in a Cult and joining their organizations or churches. Why is this happening in our lifetime; because so few Christians are working to win the lost to Jesus Christ. Far too many are satisfied to sit back and let others do the witnessing, which means many are dying without Christ and going to Hell! Shame on them.

If you are not a Christian, or you know others that are not, challenge them to listen to the Gospel of Christ, and the sin conviction of the Holy Spirit, and ask them to come to Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins. I pray you will.
