Clayton County police, along with several other agencies, have recovered the body of a 15-year-old boy, who drowned at Clayton County International Park and Beach, in Jonesboro, over the weekend.
According to authorities, the teen, Henri-Christophe Bourget, of Jonesboro, entered the park's fishing lake, Saturday, to retrieve a basketball. Bourget was able to obtain the ball and was returning to shore when he apparently encountered trouble.
"Mr. Bourget went under the water; he called for help and was not seen or heard from again," said Officer Otis Willis, a Clayton County police spokesman.
Willis added that the incident took place in the fishing lake section just north of the beach.
The discovery of Bourget, Tuesday, came after the lake was drained of approximately 20 feet of water, according to Willis.
The Clayton County Fire and Rescue Department, the state Department of Natural Resources, the Clayton County Water Authority, the Peachtree City Fire Department, Georgia Piedmont Region K-9 Search and Rescue, and the College Park Police Department, worked with Clayton Police for three days to retrieve the body from the murky water.
Willis said the boy was found approximately 75 feet off shore.
He added that Bourget was located in extremely dense hydrilla, an aquatic plant, which can grow up to 25 feet long.
Willis said that the Clayton County Police Department would like to acknowledge and thank all of the agencies that were involved in the search-and-recovery effort.
