After nearly two dozen submissions, the Naming Committee for Clayton State University's newest building has determined the winning moniker for the facility.
Jessica Bledsoe, a student -- and staff member, Bob Ward -- are the winners of the name-the-building contest, according to John Shiffert, spokesman for CSU.
Dr. Nasser Momayezi, Naming Committee chairman and dean of the College of Arts and Science, said the committee, composed of faculty, staff and students, had names submitted by students, faculty members, alumni and others.
"The committee was charged with recommending three names to the president's cabinet,"said Momayezi. "We tried to devise a name that accurately represents the major functions of the building, without creating any confusion for our students."
Bledsoe's suggestion was, "Laboratory Annex," and Ward's was, "Swan Lake Annex Building."
"Put them together and you have the Laboratory Annex Building, or the Lab, for short," said Shiffert. He said the contest ran from Sept. 10, to Oct. 8. Bledsoe and Ward were announced as winners Monday, and will split the prize of a $100 University Bookstore gift card.
"The 'Laboratory Annex Building' was the nearly unanimous choice of the committee, and the president's cabinet approved [it] as the official name," said Momayezi.
The new building, scheduled to open in January 2011, will house science labs, a psychology lab, a classroom, and six faculty offices. It will be located between the Arts and Science, and the Business and Health Sciences, buildings.
