The Union Grove Lady Wolverines are one game away from playing for the Class AAAA state softball title. All the Lady Wolverines have to do is beat Greenbrier in a loser's bracket game today in Columbus and they will play Jones County in the championship series. Union Grove won twice Friday in the loser's bracket games, beating Creekview 7-2 and Madison County 8-4. It was the second time during the tournament that Union Grove beat top-ranked Madison County. In the opeing game of the tournament, the Lady Wolverines beat Madison County 4-0. It will also be the second time they have played Greenbrier. Greenbrier sent Union Grove to the loser's bracket Thursday with a 2-1 win. Union Grove had to come from behind the beat Madison County. Behind home runs from Brittney Willbanks and Jordan Corbin, the Lady Wolverines overcame a 4-0 deficit, scoring five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to keep their season alive. The season ended for Strong Rock Friday afternoon with a 9-5 loss to Bryan County in the Class A tournament. Strong Rock, which was in its first season competing in the Georgia High School Association, finished the season with a 21-13 record. The Lady Patriots went 1-2 at the Elite 8, beating Savannah Christian before falling 1-0 against Savannah Christian to set up its must-win situation against Bryan County.More like this story
