Officials at Callaway Elementary School are inviting members of the community, to gather with students around the school's flag pole, on Sept. 14, for a sing-along of the national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner."
The event will begin with the sing-a-long, at 9 a.m., at the school, which is located at 120 Oriole Drive, in Jonesboro.
Callaway's music specialist, Jo Baker, said every member of the school's 800-person student body, as well as 100 students from the Clayton County Performing Arts Magnet High School, are expected to sing the national anthem en masse. Baker said anyone who wants to join in, is welcome to do so. "The events are open to anyone in the community," she said.
After the group-singing, students will give a performance of a dramatic monologue, entitled "Broad Stripes, Bright Stars," in the school, Baker wrote in a press release, announcing the event. Members of the public who want to watch the monologue will have to sign in, in the school's front office, before attending the performance, she said.
The events are in observance of the 196th anniversary of Francis Scott Key's writing of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
