In our "Faith" outline, the last letter "H" stands for Heaven. I must admit that I don't know a lot about Heaven, but I know it will be a wonderful experience.
We are promised we will be with God eternally (Rev. 22:3-5). Please read Revelation, chapters 21 and 22 in your Bible. Here, we get a glimpse of what Heaven will be like. I recall a trip my wife and I made to Hawaii. We had seen pictures of how beautiful these islands are, and we traveled there with great anticipation and excitement. We found them to be so much more beautiful and exciting than we had imagined; it truly was an island paradise.
I believe the Heaven God has prepared for His church -- for all who put their faith and trust in Him, -- will be so magnificent and awesome that we will spend thousands of years just admiring and enjoying the beauty of our eternal home! And so much more. Our souls, our hearts will rejoice in the warmth and love of God's presence, knowing that we are finally at home with our Lord, and will abide with Him forever.
Yes, Heaven is eternal life, and it begins not when we die, as many think, but when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It's here and now. Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly."
Instantly, we think God is going to give us every material thing we want, and abundantly -- even much more than we need. But that is the flesh, our worldly self being selfish and taking on an "Eat, drink and be merry attitude." Jesus is really saying to us, "You shall have spiritual life and have it more abundantly."
We shall know Him and grow and prosper in faith and trust, and live obedient lives for Him. All too often, we neglect to develop our spiritual being. We labor and exercise to develop our physical bodies. We plan and study and seek the best teachers and institutions to develop our mental ability, and learn a profession, trade or business expertise. And this is good, we should do these things, but we should not neglect to develop our spiritual being.
There is a God! He loves us and has provided for us an inheritance that is priceless. Jesus died for us. He paid the debt to redeem sinful man, even with His own Life, His blood. This priceless sacrifice is the gift of God. It is ours to accept through faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by Grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast."
Christ not only has paid the price for us, He has already won the battle against the forces of evil, Satan himself is defeated. We have the life of Christ as an example of how we should live as we follow Him. It is a rich life of love, happiness and righteousness, of knowing that our sins are forgiven and forgotten.
As we serve God and work with Him, we find fulfillment in life and great satisfaction in our souls.
Heaven is also in the hereafter, the future. Jesus said in John 14:3, "And if I go and prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also."
A line of a favorite poem says, after quoting this verse, "He's gone to prepare a Heaven for me." And that's exactly right. I believe Jesus is preparing a Heaven for those who love Him and put their faith and trust in Him. I believe He's just about through with His work, His masterpiece is about finished, and one day soon, He is coming for me and His church.
