Clayton State University is honoring the inauguration of the school's fourth president, Dr. Thomas J. "Tim" Hynes, Jr., by sponsoring a community health fair, according to John Shiffert, director of university relations.
Both of the health-care provider services at the university -- the Dental Hygiene Clinic, and University Health Services -- will be involved in the event on Saturday, Oct. 2, Shiffert said, in a written statement.
He added that the event will coincide with the theme of the inauguration: "A Commitment to Learning and Service."
"The Department of Dental Hygiene will be providing oral health screenings in the Dental Hygiene Clinic, located on the first floor of the Student Center, by appointment only," he said. Appointments can be made for 9 a.m., or 10:30 a.m., by calling the Dental Hygiene Clinic, at (678) 466-4920.
Also, the college's University Health Services (UHS) will offer a free Heart-Saver CPR course for members of the community, Shiffert said. There will be a limited amount of space for the course, which will begin at 9 a.m., in ballrooms A and B of the Student Activity Center, he said.
Persons interested in participating should contact Latrice Barlow, UHS office manager, by Tuesday, Sept.28, at (678) 466-4942, or by e-mail at latricebarlow@clayton.edu.
"UHS, with the help of the School of Nursing faculty and students, will also be offering free cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure screenings, from 9 a.m., to noon, in Ballroom C of the [Student Activity Center]," Shiffert said, in the statement.
He added that flu shots will also be available during this time, at a cost of $15 (a savings of $5) during the health fair. Clayton State University is located at 2000 Clayton State Blvd., in Morrow.
