Roy Barnes, the Democratic candidate for governor, will host a campaign fund-raiser on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Arts Clayton gallery, located at 136 South Main St., in Jonesboro.
According to Janie Griffin, the organizer of the event, Barnes will address supporters and take questions from the public during the meeting.
"He will be here and will meet and talk with individuals," Griffin said. "I expect he will have a short speech. Some people may have specific issues, and they will be able to talk with him as well."
The fund-raiser will also be attended by several local elected officials, including State Rep. Glenn Baker (D-Jonesboro) and Clayton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Eldrin Bell, who will serve as co-hosts for the gathering, according to organizers.
Bell, who is chairman of the fund-raiser, said he will work "diligently throughout the state and the county to get him [Barnes] elected."
"I wanted him [Barnes] to have it [the fund-raiser] in Clayton County, because when he is elected, I don't want Clayton County to be the last county on his agenda," Bell said. "I want Clayton County to have a seat at the table."
