First Presbyterian (1-3) at ELCA (3-0)
Series: First Meeting
Storylines: After a week off, the ELCA Chargers put their undefeated season on the line tonight when they play at home against First Presbyterian in the Region 5-A opener for the Chargers. ELCA enters the game after allowing just 20 points in its first three contests. First Presbyterian is in its first year of GHSA competition and has won against Irwin County. A week ago, First Presbyterian was forced to give back its victory against Strong Rock when it forfeited the game for using an ineligible player.
Prediction: ELCA 35. First Presbyterian 14
Mt. Zion (3-0) vs Riverdale (1-3)
at Southern Crescent Stadium Series: Tied 5-5.
Storylines: Mt. Zion is undefeated through three games, but all of them have been close. The Bulldogs only beat Jonesboro by one point (7-6) and Creekside (21-19) by two points. Riverdale's only victory was a 17-6 win against Morrow during the second week of the season. Riverdale has been shutout in all three loses.
Prediction: Mt. Zion 28, Riverdale 14
Banneker (3-1) vs Lovejoy (3-0)
at Twelve Oaks Stadium
Series: Lovejoy leads 2-0:
Storylines: The Lovejoy Wildcats' offense was in high gear last week scoring four quick first quarter touchdowns. Add another score by the defense and the Wildcats led 34-0 at the end of 12 minutes. Travis Custis rushed for over 100 yards. Banneker is 3-0 this year against Clayton County teams, having knocked off Forest Park, Riverdale and Mundy's Mill, all in shutouts.
Prediction: Lovejoy 28, Banneker 21
Union Grove (1-3) at Woodland (1-2)
Storylines: Game features two teams on the same mission, winning for just the second time this year. Woodland notched its only victory of the year in the first game of the season when it defeated Fayette County. Union Grove gave first-year coach Paul Burgdof his first win as the Wolverines' coach last Friday in a victory over Alcovy.
Series: First meeting
Prediction: Woodland 27, Union Grove 24
Southwest Atlanta Christian (0-3) at Strong Rock Christian (1-2-1)
