Eagle's Landing senior Zack Sims has the second-fastest time of the season, according gatfxc.com, a website devoted to cross country and track and field in the state.
Through five meets this season, he has placed first in four of them. Sims time of 15 minutes, 36.12 seconds is the second-fastest recorded this season, which he achieved with a first place finish at the Bob Blastow Early Bird race in August.
Teammate Keanan Joyner has the No. 18 fastest time in the state, according to the website.
He has a season-best of 16:03.08, which he also ran at the Bob Blastow Early Bird and placed seven overall.
They are the only two runners in the Southern Crescent that rank in the top 20 in the state.
Union Grove's Dacosta Smith, just missed placing in the top 20 with his time of 16:06, which he achieved at the same meet. Smith's time is ranked No. 21 in the state, according to the latest update.
Brandon Hazouri of Forest Park is the only Clayton County runner to make the Top 50 in times.
His time of 16:31 placed him at 17th at the Berry Invitational two weeks ago in Rome.
On the girls' side, Rayna Green of Union Grove has the 25th-fastest time in the state this season.
The junior had a personal-best of 19:18, which she achieved at the Bob Blastow Early Bird in Douglas County. The time placed her at 11th place at the meet.
She is the only female runner with a top 50 time in the state this season.
RECENT RESULTS: Sims had a time of 16:09 to finish third at The Atlanta Classic last weekend in Douglas County. The 5K race was hosted by Chapel Hill High at the Clinton Nature Preserve.
It was the first time this season that Sims did not win a race.
Joyner had a time of 17:04 to finish 15th while teammate Brian Cato, a freshman, had a time of 17:39 to place 28th overall.
MAKING IMPROVEMENTS: Stockbridge sophomore Shannon Milikin has made some steady progression throughout the season.
Last week at the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational, she had a time of 22:25 to place eighth at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers.
Her best time this season was 21:43, which she ran at the second annual Decision Bridge Invitational Cross Country and 5K Trail Race in Hampton. She placed 19th overall in the race.
