The Mundy's Mill Lady Tigers never set out to go undefeated in Region 4-AAAAA.
All the local team wanted to do was win the Clayton County Tournament.
The team's wish list also included capturing the regular season region title.
Mission accomplished there too.
Tuesday afternoon the Lady Tigers added to their list of superlatives with a 12-0 win over Mt. Zion. That win did give Mundy's Mill a perfect 15-0 record.
It was the first time a team from Mundy's Mill finished with an undefeated record.
"Going undefeated was never one of our goals, it's just an added incentive," Mundy's Mill head coach Patrick Smith said.
In the win against Mt. Zion, Mundy's Mill was paced by Savannah McHellon with a perfect game and 12 strikeouts. It was her seventh no-hitter of the year.
Dankia Stevens led the bats with a 2-for-2 performance and an inside-the-park homer. The Lady Tigers play in the Region 4-AAAAA tournament starting Monday at Lovejoy Park. Their first pitch is set for 6:30.
Ranked Union Grove, Ola gear up for Region 4-AAAA Tourney: The Union Grove Lady Wolverines have concluded their regular season with a 20-7 record and will begin play in the Region 4-AAAA Tournament at home Thursday afternoon.
Official brackets will be released after every team in the region completes its regular-season schedule.
The Lady Wolverines go into the postseason ranked No. 4 in the Class AAAA tournament.
The region tournament concludes on Oct. 8, with the top four finishers advancing to the Class AAAA tournament.
Ola High School ended its season Tuesday at Woodland. The Lady Mustangs are ranked 10th in the Class AAAA poll as they also gear up for a run through the state playoffs.
The Lady Mustangs have been on a winning streak lately, rolling off five victories in a row heading into its game with Woodland.
Strong Rock still ranked: The Strong Rock Christian Lady Patriots maintained their No 8-ranking this week with a 15-9 overall record in the gasports. Class A poll. The Lady Patriots are finishing up their first regular season in GHSA play on a high note after winning three games in a row, including two by shutout, beating Eagle's Landing Christian Academy 8-0 and Landmark Christian.
Strong Rock finishes up its regular season on Thursday with a non-region game against Jackson. On Saturday, they play First Presybeterian Day School in the first round of the Region 9-A tournament.
The two teams will meet in a doubleheade to open the best-of-three series. The third and deciding game would take place on Tuesday, if needed.
